Photography Categories for 2011 Clay County Fair

Spencer, IA – The 2011 Clay County Fair premium books are now available!  Premium books for Creative Activities, Creative Culinary, Horses, Fields & Gardens and Livestock can picked up at the Clay County Fair Administration Office, downloaded from our website at http://www.claycountyfair.com/agprog/forms.htm or request to have one mailed to you by calling 712-262-4740.

Five special photography categories will be featured at the 2011 Fair. What is it about a photo that makes us smile? Marvin Burk Photography is sponsoring adult and youth “Humor” categories to be judged with this question in mind. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st through 3rd place winners with the adult first place winner receiving $100, second place, $75 and third place, $50. The youth first place winner will receive $50, second place, $35 and third place, $25.

The Spencer Daily Reporter is sponsoring this year’s Photojournalism Class entitled, “What a Great Event” for both adult and youth divisions. Photos in this category will tell the stories of the fair, weddings, community celebrations and many other great events. Cash prizes will be awarded to first through third place adult and youth winners.

Help celebrate the beauty of “State Parks in Iowa” for the Beautiful Iowa Class sponsored by Melander’s TV and Appliance. Exhibitors must specify which state park the photo was taken in and first through third place adult and youth winners will receive cash prizes.

This year’s Lifestyle Class, sponsored by Nielsen’s Tire and Appliance, will feature “People at Work”. Photos should depict a way of life or style of living that reflects the attitudes and values of people at work in Iowa. Examples chould include, but are not limited to, work on the farm, in the office, or in the classroom. Cash prizes will be awarded for both adult and youth divisions.

“People Helping the Water” is this year’s Conservation Class sponsored by Clay County Soil Conservation. Capture man’s influence on improving water quality in photos to win a cash prize for first, second or third place in both adult and youth divisions. Entrants should specify the location of the photo on the entry form and entry tag.

Photos must be 8” x 10”, flush mounted and can be entered September 2, from noon-7:00 p.m. or September 3, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the photo building at the Fair. Pre-entries are encouraged but not required. Volunteers are wanted during entry, judging and displaying—help is always appreciated!
