‘Chef of the Day’ and other exciting Adult Presentations set to appear at 2010 Fair

Spencer, Iowa – Adult Presentations kick off on Monday, September 13 in the 4-H Auditorium at the Clay County Fair and run through Friday, September 17. Unique and exciting presenters are on tap including daily appearances of a “Chef of the Day”, afternoon speakers and late afternoon entertainment. 

Monday, September 13 brings the first “Chef of Day” for the 2010 Fair at 11:00 a.m.; Jeremy Neppl of LaChiesa in Spencer will present “Italian at the River”. Chef Jeremy will be doing an Italian cooking demonstration displaying his techniques and passion for cooking with fresh local ingredients.

Cookbook Author Linda Burgett of Aztec, New Mexico will be the Tuesday, September 14 “Chef of the Day” at 11:00 a.m. Linda is a native of Iowa and often referred to as the “cookbook lady” at the Clay County Fair. She has authored and co-authored three national best-selling cookbooks. Linda’s presentation will be “My Kind of Cooking – Quick and Easy Recipes”.

On Wednesday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m. Chef Margo Sievers and Chefferettes – Nancy Binder, Kathy Reiling, Sherri Coffee and Lori Madsen all of the Sioux Rapids area will appear as the “Chefs of the Day”. Their presentation is, “We’re Not Going to Fool Ya…We’re Not Quite Julia”. This group will teach cooking with humor. Their session focuses on poetry, science, social studies, math, fine arts and the use of the senses to appreciate cooking and entertaining.

Executive Chef Adam Hunt will become “Chef of the Day” on Thursday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. Chef Adam is with the Clay County Regional Events Center and will present a “Cooking Demo with Adam”.  Adam is a native of Iowa and a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Minneapolis. He will prepare his signature dishes for the crowd.

Additionally, on Thursday Chef Allison Hill of Algona will present a second “Chef of the Day” session at 1:00 p.m. on “Daily Bread Bakery – We Have What Your Body Kneads”. Allison is the owner of Daily Bread which is a certified organic bakery café.

Friday, September 17 will bring in Chef Mitch Irby and Owner Chad Pleuger of Cabernet Catering/Legends Events of Spencer at 11:00 a.m. Chef Mitch will show everyone how to do fruit carving and display for edible fruit trays. They will also show how to carve for vegetable displays.

Free food samples will be provided for each “Chef of the Day” presentation in the 4-H Auditorium.

Presentations will also take place throughout the week in the 4-H Auditorium. Monday afternoon features Vietnam Veteran Tim Brinkley with “We Were Ahead When I Left and We Are Still Winning Today”, Brigadier General Allen Batschelet with “We’re Serving America” and entertainment from Denise Shipler performing “Our Vets Rock”. On Tuesday South Clay Teacher of the Year Donna Goebel will present “Education In Washington D.C.” Later in the afternoon Lee Schoenewe will speak on “Bird Watching and Listening: Identifying NW Iowa Birds” and entertainment will be provided by Dennis Winkie and Jerry Roberts with “Friends” later in the afternoon. Wednesday brings Little Swan Lake Winery with “Iowa Made Wine…Local and Fine”, Iowa Lakes Regional Director for the Alzheimer’s Association Kelly Schultz presenting “The Magic of Maintaining Your Brain” and entertainment by Flutist Deb Jepson, Pianist Elina Ozolins and Clarinetist Janet Boyens with “Take Time to Enjoy the Music”. Thursday Gayle DeLoss will take to the stage with “Yoga, It’s For Every Body” and afternoon entertainment will be Bill Hansen singing “Sing of Faith, Love, Hope and Swing”. Friday wraps up presentations starting at 1:00 p.m. with “Kids Got Talent” for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders performing various talents.
